This product is a replacement disk drive lever mechanism for the Commodore 1541 Floppy Disk Drive with the Newtronics drive mechanism.
The Commodore 1541 with the newtronics mechanism was the second most common version of the Commodore 1541 disk drive, with open disk slot. On this version, the rotating lever is used to engage the drive mechanism with the disk (i.e. to engage the hub clamp and load the disk heads) and to prevent removal of the disk while the mechanism is mechanically engaged. This product replaces a broken disk lever and is comprised of two pieces. The first is a hub that mounts on the shaft that rotates with the movement of the lever. It is held in place with a set screw. The second part is the lever that presses on to the shaft of the hub.
To install this, you must remove the face plate of the drive, and remove the old factory hub (that was attached to the factory lever). Simply press the hub onto the shaft and tighten the set screw. The set screw should be tightened against the flat face on the shaft (as shown in the included photos of this product).
Then reinstall the face, and press the lever onto the shaft. It only mounts on the shaft one way.
This is a direct replacements for a broken lever assembly for the Commodore 1541 with Newtronics mechanism or the 1541C with the white Newtronics mechanism.
Bring your old drive back into service with these super strong PLA, 3D printed door lever.
Be sure to purchase the hex key for tightening the installation screw if you don't already have it. It's a 1.5mm hex key.
Drives shown are not included, are only shown for illustrative purposes only.
